Handy Recycling Tips

We have included some handy tips to help you with different material types:


General
  • All containers must be empty
  • No need to rinse, just scrape clean
  • NO hazardous chemical containers
  • NO plastic bags – keep recycling loose
  • NO food waste
  • NO green waste
  • NO nappies
  • NO clothing or textiles
  • When shopping choose packaging that can be recycled
  • Recycle from all rooms in the house
  • Place an empty box or separate bin in your pantry or kitchen cupboard to collect recycled items as you use them.
Glass

  • All containers must be empty
  • No need to rinse, just scrape clean.
  • Plastic and metal lids are recyclable - please remove first
  • NO drinking glasses
  • NO pyrex
  • NO ceramics
  • NO mirrors
  • No need to remove labels
Metal

  • Metal saucepans, pots and pans can also be recycled
  • NO glass lids
  • NO liquids including paint
  • All containers must be empty
  • No need to rinse, just scrape clean
  • Metal ring pulls on cans are recyclable
  • No need to remove labels
Plastic - Rigid Only

  • Plastic tops can be left on plastic bottles
  • NO non-rigid plastic such as cling wrap or plastic bags
  • NO batteries - remove from toys
  • NO polystyrene
  • All containers must be empty
  • No need to rinse, just scrape clean
  • Rigid plastics without a recycling symbol can be recycled
  • No need to remove labels
  • No need to remove plastic tabs on bottle necks
  • NO hazardous chemical containers
Paper

  • Plastic window envelopes are recyclable
  • Staples can be left in paper
  • NO plastic wrapping on advertising material - please remove
  • NO shredded paper
Cardboard

  • Cartons with plastic lids can be recycled
  • Flatten boxes to create more space
  • All containers must be empty
  • NO waxed cartons
  • NO food scraps - scrape clean
Mixed Material

  • Foil lined containers such as long life milk or juice cartons can be recycled
  • NO liquid - please empty from containers
